Professor Simona Onori Elevated to IEEE Fellow

Associate Professor Simona Onori, in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering and by courtesy in Electrical Engineering has been elevated to Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), one of the organization’s highest professional distinctions.

Professor Onori was recognized for her contributions to energy systems modeling, control, and optimization. Her research spans nearly two decades and is characterized by the development of rigorous modeling and control frameworks for energy storage and conversion systems, together with their validation and deployment in real-world settings. Her work integrates theoretical foundations, data-driven methods, physics-based modeling, and system-level optimization, in close collaboration with industry and government partners.

Commenting on the recognition, Professor Onori stated: “This honor is deeply meaningful to me, as it reflects not only work developed over time but, more importantly, the collective contributions of my collaborators and students. Innovation does not occur in isolation, but emerges through research that bridges disciplines and remains closely connected to real-world impact.”

Professor Onori will be officially elevated to IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2026. This recognition reflects her sustained technical contributions and leadership in the field of energy systems.
